This is one of the most common questions I receive from people wanting to build an online business, but I think it’s also important to know why it’s being asked.

Simply put, the answer to this is that it seems intimidating to build a blog or a site.

New online marketers squirm at the thought of having to do all of the ‘tech’ stuff But, with WordPress and all the plugins available, the reality is that building a website has never been simpler.

By spending a few hours and watching about 10 to 20 free video tutorials on YouTube, anyone can get a good idea on how to create pages, posts and so on.

Now let’s take a look at why I think a website is essential for anyone wanting to succeed online with their business.

Could someone succeed without one?

Of course… BUT it would be way more difficult and will take a lot longer. Not to mention that the chances of success would be slimmer too.

Here’s why I think having a website is essential…

Having a website gives you a 24/7 presence online and makes you seem like an authority in your niche.

Like Jay Conrad Levinson said, “Your website is the window of your business. Keep it fresh, keep it exciting.


2. Aids With Marketing

Another point to note is that a website lends credibility to your business. If you have a YouTube channel, a connected website will make everything look more legitimate and help with your business immensely.

For example, if you run a gardening channel where you constantly put out videos on gardening tips and you have thousands of followers – by having a gardening website, you’ll be able to sell books on growing beautiful roses or vegetable gardening tips.

This is just an example, but you get the point. You will need a website to sell your own products.

3. Drives Traffic And Extends Reach

A website is also a form of traffic generation. People who find your website through search engines or social media can be led to your sales pages, landing pages, etc.

Your website is not just a hub for your audience to hang out in, but it also acts as a conduit to funnel them into your list or get them on your sales pages and warmed up enough to buy your products.

A website is available to anyone anywhere in the world. The same can’t be said for videos or social media sites which may be blocked in some countries. You have a much wider reach with a website.

4. Creates Opportunities For Passive Income

When you have a website, you can fill it with informative and useful content for your readers. By sprinkling affiliate links into your content, you will increase your chances of making passive affiliate commissions.

You never know who will be stumbling upon your site and reading your content and clicking on your links. Yet, it happens all the time.

5. Reduces Your Costs

Passive IncomeHaving a website helps to reduce your business costs. If your blog is popular, you can have ads on it too. These different income generating opportunities will only be available to you if you have a website.

The extra income you make will help to defray the overall costs in your business and keep you profitable.

6. Helps You Build A List

Even if you do video marketing, you can have a link in your video description to a landing page on your blog to capture email addresses. You can then market to your list later on.

The same applies to Pinterest, Instagram, etc.

Never build a house on rented land. You should always have links from other sites pointing to your landing page/website so that you can build your own list.

By now you’ll realize that it’s not a matter of if you need a website, but more of when you’re going to build your own site. Imagine your website to be a piece of virtual real estate that will generate profits and dividends for years to come.
